42 days: and so it all comes down to this

"The hard politics is very simple: are Labour MPs prepared to defend British civil liberties even if it's at the cost of their own party leader?" - Nick Clegg

Well, you'd bloody well hope so, wouldn't you?

The most ridiculous reason I heard for voting for 42 days was on newsnight last night when it was suggested that it would go through because Labour rebels think they've done enough damage so far and want to save GB the bad headlines. It made me so angry that anyone would consider justifying their vote for this inherently bad law because of that.

Link to my rant.

If it does go through I don't think the country, let alone history, will judge those responsible kindly.

Off-topic, so I apologize. But question about all these knife attacks in England.

I'm an American living in New York, who gets his information only from the papers online, and the impression I get is that crime in London is out of control and worse than usual.

True impression? Was Boris elected to pull a Giuliani?

Where would they put them?

They are letting guilty people out of prisons as they have no room for them, so what do they want to do put innocent people in gaol instead.

This government must be reminded that we are innocent until proven quitly

Good rant Lizzie. Melancholy Korean - I think people voted to Boris because they were sick of Labour. Crime is actually down but knife crime amongst youths is up and that worries people.

revinkevin - what andy says. Write to them! is a really good service.

I suggest you read a few of the Police blogs. Crime is down in the same way that Saddam had WMD, hot and ready to go in 45 min.

The stats are being cooked by redefining what is a crime, and using different laws for the arrests.

In related news, tractor production is up, as is the chocolate ratio. We are at war with Eastasia and always have been.
