'7/7, Islam & the Iraq War' by Milan Rai


Milan Rai has written a new book called '7/7: the London bombings, Islam and the Iraq War'. I recommend it.

On 12th April ( next Wednesday) I will be speaking as part of a panel at the London launch of the book. It's at 7-9pm, Friends Meeting House, 173 Euston Road, NW1 2BJ. Organised by JNV, Quaker Peace and Social Witness and Voices UK

Any thoughts on the chap who thinks that 7/7 wasn't terrorism - it was political speach....

It struck me as rather racist - the assumption that "these people" behave in this way, that it is how they always behave. Utimately it leads to the most extreme form of Islamaphobia.

I find it strange that many cannot bring themselves to blame Bin Ladin et al for their own actions. Equality works both ways - anyone has the power to do ill. Creating moral sliding scales for different groups, with non-Europeans starting having a +6 on their morality dices roles (as the D&D types might put it) is surely just another brand of labelling those same groups as "children" Kipling style....
