The Survivors
Also in the Sunday Times is a feature in the magazine which is the stories of some of the July 7th survivors, including Brian and Yvonne from my carriage.
Moving, powerful, inspiring, sad.
Moving, powerful, inspiring, sad.
I read those articles in the Sunday Times magazine today (4th December 2005) and I was very moved by those written experiences. I am a survivor of random violence myself, the sort of normalised violence that most people aren't even aware of these days... but never mind, its the way we live today.....
I just hope that my children will not be the victims of the carnage of "7/7" or "9/11" etc... These horrors are not inevitable. It is our so-called western civilisation that is creating all this violence and chaos!
I don't think it's a result of "Western Society" as such. It is a result of attitudes within society that say a young adult can't be blamed for their wrong doing, it's not the parent's fault their children are uncontrolable or criminals must be treated gently and not deprived of any rights.
Doing this removes the responsibility we must all adopt to act within acceptable boundaries if we are to make full use of our "rights".
If children, or young adults, are violent and uncontrollable, its because they have violent parents or guardians. Children learn by example, therefore their parents/guardians ARE responsbile for their behaviour. And if our leaders are corrupt liars, then they are sending out the message to those violent and uncontrollable youngsters that its OK to harm and destroy innocent lives.
