Radio 5 live at 10pm
I'm on air on BBC R5 Live tonight from 10-10.30pm with Terry Waite and a former M16 officer talking about the question of whether or not to negotiate with terrorists.
UPDATE: That was a technical nightmare from my end: the echo was horrendous. Everything I said was repeated back to me with a split-second delay. Oh, well, over now and I can finally have a glass of wine!

Negotiations have been going on unbeknownst to us for a long long time apparently. I got there a bit late, but I caught the aftermath on my blog..
Of course they have, that is the norm no matter who your enemy is.
The moment hostilities break out, there is normally a drive to find a third party known by both sides.
Eventually both sides talk directly to each other but this is rarely admitted – even after a war. Because at the end of the day both sides want to win.
But there are times we try to talk too much – like in the case of Iran arresting UK naval personnel.
Who was talking to much then? I thought they were smiling and shaking hands with people and they were given new suits no?
